My original thought was to attend medical school (I even took the MCAT), but decided to persue a PhD in inorganic chemistry instead. I have extensive experience in working with students. I worked as an organic chemistry lab assistant as an undergraduate. During graudate school, I taught both general and analytical chemistry. I feel the need for tutoring is the need to simply obtain information in a form that is different from the one presented in the classroom. As a tutor, I work to break things down into their constituent pieces and explain each of these pieces in turn. This is a more time-intensive method of instruction, of course, as the breaking down of information is totally dependent on the way it must be done for it to make sense to the student. Tutoring allows this method to be used, as one-on-one, this method is just as quick as the standard schoolroom methods.

Teaching is very subjective. Each individual learns according to his/her own style. What I find challenging and rewarding is to find that point where it “clicks”. I believe the best way to learn is through experience and discovery. As an example, I can describe the intelligence of an octopus. But until you actually see a video of one opening a jar for a treat, do you truly realize it as a thinking, planning being.
