A Little Bit About Me...

I love biology. You will too. My students will become experts in their fields, but they are not there yet. It is not my style to throw them in the deep end and hope they can hear me yelling commands. It is my style to jump in and swim with them until they take off on their own. It is my desire to teach because it is here that I can know my students and personally be a part of their success. Many of them will become successful and stay in the community. I will see them in the supermarket. I will always be reminded of whether I have done my job. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy a very interactive learning approach. I tend to use hands on and visual learning techniques. I am patient and children are my joy to work with. During the attainment of my undergraduate degree, I conducted research under my professor, Dr. Greg Powell. Throughout the research, I gathered many skills one being creative in learning, as well as, presenting new material and teaching it to fellow peers and professors. My Physics class had the chance to work with machinery used in vocational careers. I also taught Teacher Cadets, a class for students interested in the field of Education. During the last six-weeks students completed a student teaching experience working with K-12 teachers. My physics students competed in several engineering contests, (paper airplane, egg drop, rubber band car, etc.) which provided several students scholarships. My biology class did soil testing for the local citizens. These are a couple of examples I utilize in my classroom. I want my students to understand the material, not just memorize it. I use an assortment of activities and hands-on techniques to achieve this objective.

I enjoy teaching when there is a bit of a challenge getting the student to understand the concept. As I have mentioned, I can use different styles to help the student get the concept. I have a great deal of patience and believe that everyone can learn. I enjoy the way someone looks after they have understood and mastered an idea.
I tutored all subjects - especially in Math all through High School. I also tutored in college. I have strong skills in Math - all levels - but I especially enjoy algebra. I have two children and I basically taught my oldest son math, since he was a different kind of learner than the way they teach at school. He is a very kinesthetic type learner and needs to see, feel and touch to understand the concepts - so I used a lot of tools to help him. I can tutor math and science exceptionally well and other subjects for the younger levels.
