I am a recent graduate from the University of Dubuque where I received my Bachelor of Science in k-12 Physical Education and Instructional Strategist 5-12 (Special Education). I also hold a coaching license. As a special educator I am constantly adapting and accommodating to the many needs to a variety of students and enjoy doing so. I am knowledgeable in different teaching strategies from elementary school to college. I have knowledge in the content areas as well as other specialized subjects. I believe that students learn best when they utilize their learning styles. I'm a student at Augustana College whose academic record has ranged from public school to home schooling to community college and and even private education. I've worked as a tutor for over 2 years at Black Hawk College, at the same time obtaining an Associates Degree. Throughout those years I've encountered many special needs students and many bright students, tutoring in subjects ranging from English, Math, Social Studies, to Computer Science. I believe the best way to learn is peer-to-peer learning. As an auto-didact I have the study skills necessary to regurgitate information as taught by the current institutional models. This is an uncreative and highly unnatural way to learn. There's a reason no major discovery was made in a classroom -- true innovation, discovery and learning is an organic process.

My teaching philosophy is to provide a safe and welcoming learning environment for my students, in which they feel equal and confident as learners. Creating a positive learning environment begins with building a strong rapport with students and coworkers. Another aspect of building a strong classroom community is motivation. As a teacher, my goal is to help student build strong self-efficacy so that they feel inclined to work hard and develop an inner sense of motivation.
