My comments on tutoring Writing Skills : Expert at all descriptive and creative Writing concepts. Particularly good at helping others: 1) be creative; 2) avoid wordiness; 3) be more descriptive; 4) keep focus and relevance; 5) be clear; 6) convince or persuade.

If you watch me closely during our sessions, you can see me secretly paying keen attention to you and how you learn best. For example, you might say, "It LOOKS like they want me to factor here." And I'll think, "Aha! LOOKS. Maybe you're a visual learner and like to SEE things explained and SEE examples. (About 80% of students are visual learners.) On the other hand, you might say, "It sounds like they want me to factor here." And I'll think, "Aha! sounds. Maybe you like to HEAR things explained, and you're a keen listener and like to hear things described clearly and specifically. Or maybe you'll say, "I FEEL like they want me to factor here" (as you tap the problem with your pencil). And I'll think, "Aha! FEEL. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a Certified Public Accountant with over 30 years of accounting and finance experience. Although I have no formal teaching degree, I feel that I would be an excellent tutor. First, I have successfully trained many employees over the years. Second, my two sons, ages 21 and 19 graduated numbers 2 and 1 in their high school classes, respectively. Now, both are "straight A" students at the University of Tennessee. Here, I feel that I have lead by example. Finally, my personality, while being friendly and patient, is also that of a highly motivated "over achiever" who loves to help others. I feel that I offer the best of both worlds, a love of learning in an academic environment as well as real-life experience in the business world.

I taught Accounting, Finance and Business Math for two years at the undergraduate level after graduation. I am currently Controller for a medium-sized construction company, and use all aspects of accounting and finance in my daily work life.
I focus on using examples from real business to explain problems and assignments in a clear, straightforward and step-by-step manner. After graduating from Virginia Tech in 1973, I decided that I would enter the field of public education. After 6 years of successful and rewarding experiences in secondary education, I decided to return to college and obtain a Masters Degree in Education. Upon receiving my Masters in 1984, I taught at the post secondary level in both Virginia and North Carolina.
