A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate from the University of North Texas with a BFA in drawing and Painting. I have used the art experince to teach preschoolers self expression through creating. I took 4 years of ASl in college and found the experinces exciting, inspiring me to want to teach ASL on the HS level.For the past 5 years I have been teaching ASL at a KatyISD.

As an elementary school teacher, I have experience teaching children to read. For 3 years I worked in schools as a reading professional with children whose reading skills were below grade level. I have also worked as a private tutor in math and reading. I have extensive knowledge of teaching phonics, using appropriate reading material to establish reading fluency, and helping children achieve mastery of critical reading skills.
I believe that positive reinforcement is the most effective way to motivate a student to learn. Each child must learn to identify his or her strengths and use those strengths to solve problems. I believe guided practice is necessary to establish support for students as they are learning until they ultimately can perform tasks independently.
