I believe in starting with the basics in all things. Reading starts with Phonics, and writing starts with Spelling and Vocabulary, as well as old-fashioned handwriting skills. An absolute staple of learning, in my opinion, is frequent reading for pleasure – whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, novels or comic books. I am patient and love to teach, even reluctant learners. I remember what it was like to not want to sit around and do schoolwork, so I don't expect children to be eager to do it. Over many years as an IT person, I worked with clients, one on one, teaching them how to get their computer to do what they want it to do. Often times, the client would be very frustrated. I needed to first, relieve the frustration – then determine what needed to be done to rectify the situation (through a question and answer processes). While attaining my genetics degree at Ohio State, I worked at the OSU Chimpanzee Center. After graduating, I started working for the Department of Agriculture in the Weights and Measures division. It was my job to try to "trick" the scales before they could become available for commercial use. I moved back home to Coshocton when I got married. I quickly found a job teaching adults within our county's GED program. A Little Bit About Me...

Since high school I have been aware that I wanted to teach. I am currently pursueing a Masters of Education, and finishing one of my specializations, (French). I have taught for several businesses. I also taught for the Worthington Public School system as a volunteer and teaching asssistant.
I try to devote the day to getting kids interested in learning while covering the topics necessary. I cater to each child's needs and abilities and try to use their strength's to help their weaknesses. For example when teaching foreign language, if a child is not as strong in language as they are in math, I try to use formulas to portray language in a more concrete manner.
