My teaching philosophy involves connecting with individual students. One of my strengths is identifying strong points in a student’s performance and teaching him to tap into successful facets of his/her performance. In English, I was trained in (and advocate) “Faulkner English” as developed by Claude Faulkner and taught at the University of Arkansas. This method employs a certain amount of deconstruction of sentences, beginning with the most simple, and can be geared to any level. By the completion, in May, of my graduate degree, I will have taught 45 hours of undergraduate English courses in Composition/Rhetoric, Business Writing, Literature, Creative Writing and Essay Writing. I have also, in previous summers, taught college-prep English classes at Gonzaga Preparatory School in Spokane, Washington.
