A Little Bit About Me...

I really enjoy teaching all ages. From my background in coaching young children how to swim I've become well adjusted to dealing with difficult situatioins in a learning environment. However, I always want to provide my students with the best learning environment possible. I'm extremely patient and I believe that a teacher should be willing to do whatever is possible to help their students understand the material and learn.
I graduated from Davidson College with a major in economics, which has enabled me to gain an understanding of both math and social science. I tutored during my junior and senior years in North Carolina and I've also done private tutoring in Gainesville. In addition, I coached 4-12 year olds how to swim. If I can teach 4 year olds who are screaming and kicking how to swim I can teach someone math or ecnomoics.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style embodies a combination of individualism and structure. Before I teach any subject, I dissect the topic to get to the fundamental root that may cause difficulties in learning. I break down the problem into a simple nature so that students can understand the logical reasoning of how to solve any problem. I believe that everyone has a unique learning style, so I use a flexible approach to better help students discover beyond just the right answer. Instead of just giving a student a few steps to memorize, I emphasize understanding why the solution makes sense, so that they may solve any problem regardless of their memorization abilities.

I love seeing people understand something once I explain it to them in a way that they can understand it. I also love working with kids and teenagers because I believe that if we have a positive influence on young people they will grow up to be the leaders that our nation needs. My teaching style is geared at making people think. Students don't learn when they are spoon fed their education but when they are lead in the correct direction.

I tend to use a hands on approach to teaching. I put learning in the perspective of the students life into an experience that he/she can relate to. I asses the level of clarity needed based on the students response and actions. I like to teach visually which also helps for memorization and repetition. I dont have a lot of experience with teaching children in a classroom environment, but I have a 5 year old, that I have to constantly teach different things besides what he learns at school.I have experience training physicians in a complex electronic medical records environment. I had so much fun with this project at the facility I worked with.
