I have been a certified teacher since 1986, and for the past 6 years have been a Title I reading teacher in Pinellas County Schools. I have extensive experience in working with young students in many subject areas, as well as tutoring experience in reading and vocabulary skills. I have also done volunteer work teaching English Conversation and Grammar to adults for whom English is not their native language.

I have taught all aspects of literacy since 2003. This includes reading, writing, grammar, phonics, spelling, and handwriting. I was an Early Literacy teacher for two years and a Title I teacher for three years. In addition, I have taught preschool children and middle school children. My last three years of teaching directly were in a second grade classroom. I have abundant experience in assessing reading skills and abilities and determining students' reading levels. I try to include fun in every lesson. Playing games, creating rhymes or chants to remember mechanical rules helps students to move forward in their skills. I have had intensive training with multiple intelligence (Kagan structures) with my current employer. I use these structures during every lesson. Multiple intelligence structures focus on cooperative learning and allow for students to learn in a way that is most suitable for them. The students become familiar with these structures and look forward to using them during the lessons to share their thoughts and findings with their peers. Throughout college I tutored elementary students for a tutoring company that worked with students in an urban district in Pennsylvania. My tutoring experiences are in K-1 and grade 3. I graduated from East Carolina University with a B.S. in Elementary Education (K-6) as well as Reading Certification (K-12). I did an internship in 1st grade as well as taught some in 2nd and 3rd grade. I know that each child is different and that I must differentiate my teaching methods in order to reach all children. I love learning new and creative ways to teach content to children and trying to make learning as engaging and meaningful as possible for all.
