English ESOL is one of my top subjects! I have 2 years of real-world ESOL teaching experience in Japan, where I not only taught at public schools, but gave private lessons to adult students.

I have a very strong passion for education and feel it is of utmost importance in this world. Given that, I always try my best to explain to students how what they are learning matters, and equip them with the tools they need to succeed on their own. After graduating High School early (Jan 2001) I did two semester at the University of Akron majoring in Political Science. After the events of 9/11 I enlisted in the US Navy (Jan 2002). I was trained at the prestigious Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey CA, with follow up training in Texas. I then spent the next years working as an Arabic linguist and Intelligence Analyst at a Joint Service Operation. I specialized in Iraqi and Syrian Dialects. By 2006 I was a shift NCOIC (Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, basically a supervisor). I left the service in 2008 with an honorable discharge and started working for the department of the army as a civilian but filling the same roll. English ESOL is one of my top subjects! I completed a Teaching English as a Second Language certification program at my university, which incorporated a month-long practicum in Dresden, Germany, in which I observed classes at local schools and even taught some of my own.

I employ the Socratic method of asking lots and lots of questions. I see a tutorial as not a time for a student to soak up information, but to engage the mind and use the tools he has already been given. Of course, if a student truly doesn't know something crucial, I will tell him. I always try to make my instruction at least a little bit funny, and to connect the material to the student's interests, because these factors are known to enhance learning.
