I completed my Master's Degree in Reading Education and am state certified as a Reading Specialist K-12. Because of my extensive training in this area I can extend upon classroom teaching and work collaboratively to use research based methods to improve instruction. I like to approach tutoring on an individual basis. I like to learn what works best for each student and help them understand a subject in the way which best suits them. I believe that anyone is capable of learning anything if it is explained to them in the right way. A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught 6-12th grade English for three years. While teaching in Detroit I was the lead teacher heading the tutoring program for MEAP preparation. I have also prepared North Carolina students for ACT and SATs.
I have been told that my classroom does not need a teacher's desk. This is probably due to my high energy, fact paced teaching style. I love using music and technology to get the students interested. I also like to relate English to their lives and show them how they need it. Yes you may walk past my classroom and hear rap music but, that is strictly to show the students how tools of education are used in their everyday lives.

I am a retired special ed teacher. I worked with Learning Disabled, Emotionally Impaired, Cognitively Impaired, and Austistic students primarily in the high school. I was an Assistant Principal in a middle school for four years, and a teacher consultant for 30 years. In my role as a teacher consultant, I tutored students primarily in the high school.
For the past 30 years, I have worked with special needs students. I believe that students learn at their educational level. The problem with education today, is that students are often in classrooms that stress learning at their frustration level.
