I enjoy helping others learn. It is a compliment when someone asks for your help. After tutoring and substitute teaching for about 2 years, I have learned that students comprehend material in many different ways. I am able to sit down with each student and ask them how THEY comprehend the material. I then make it to where they are the tutor and teaching me how to learn, however I do teach them the material. In order for them to become successful I have to be willing to listen and be passionate about helping them succeed in their area of weakness.

I have a friendly teaching style; I use a lot of sense of humor. But, this takes a lot of hard work to achieve. The reason I am able to teach French grammar in a non-intimidating, almost very relaxing way, is because I had to master it. I have a way of getting closer to my students and to their difficulties by having the ability to relate almost every chapter I introduce to my personal experiences. And, I have anecdotes almost about any new topic I present. I am a story teller in that sense. Sometime my students beg me to tell them more anecdotes. I tell them if they want to hear more stories, they have to do this, or that. And almost always agree with smiles that seem to say “you got us!”

A Little Bit About Me...

I approach teaching and tutoring as an exercise in problem solving. It requires assessment of the student's background, previously mastered skills, learning style, and engagement with the content. I believe that anyone can be taught anything; the key is developing an engaged, encouraged student with the fundamental knowledge to grasp the concepts at hand. Sometimes this requires remediation of specific skills. Other times, a student needs to understand the big picture so concepts can take root. Some students may require a visual demonstration while others master concepts best by diving head first into the content and asking questions when they arrive at a sticking point.
