My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : Having been a classroom teacher for over 15 years, I have had many students diagnosed with ADD/ADHD or had IEPs. I know how to reach these students and help them be great students and enjoy school.

I have taught for many decades and use a variety of teaching styles since all students learn differently. I am more of a 'traditional' style teacher, realizing that the basics are vital. I am a visual learner myself, but realize that my students may not. I always teach so that all students learn..using visual,hands on, and auditory presentation of material. Students learn best when they feel safe to explore and learn from past mistakes. In fact, 'mistakes' should be viewed as opportunities to improve skills and learning strategies. I use 'play therapy' most often to teach skills and strategies. Multiple studies have demonstrated that children learn best through play.

My first teaching experience was as a high school senior where I was given the opportunity to teach a small group of 5th graders as part of the Missouri A+ program. We began with division, quickly moving into linear and nonlinear algebra, before touching on the fundamentals of complex numbers, graph theory and trigonometry, before concluding with a derivation of the quadratic formula and its applications.
