Old Soldier who likes teaching English

I taught for 9 yrs at the 1159 US Army Reserve Forces School. I helped soldiers get promoted to SSG, SFC, & MSG by providing them with skills in writing correspondence, public speaking, lesson planning & class preparation for delivery in both a classroom & tactical (field) environment. I also provided remedial training for soldiers needing additional work in writing,lesson planning & class presentation.
I told my students there was no "wrong" way to present class material. They were told they would be videotaped & critiqued by their class members..BUT their presentation would be on their military specialty (eg. a Motor Pool SGT would do a class on vehicle maintenance)..thereby increasing the "comfort level" of the presenter & enhancing the knowledge of the class. The students would be taught to affirm each other & give each other positive "feed-back".

A Little Bit About Me...

Experience in the study of British and American Literature, also have made a study of History in America and Britain as well during undergraduate coursework. During my Master's I studied British Literature and was a teaching assistant. During that time I spent two years teaching composition and argumentation at Bowling Green State University to cover college level essay writing which required both classroom and individual tutoring outside of class.
