My comments on tutoring Biology : concentration in biology in college

I recently graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a degree in childhood education (1-6) and now pursuing my graduate degree online through SUNY Albany. I am currently subbing in the Sweet Home Central School District in grades K-12. I have lots of experience with children including subbing, student teaching, school volunteer work, summer camp counselor, babysitting, etc. I am a young 21 year old vivacious woman looking to put my acquired skills into practice!

A Little Bit About Me...

I have done assistant teaching for my professors at Concord University. I helped set up laboratory equipment, answered college freshmans' questions and provided reasons for why certain biological processes occurred in Biology 102. I only did it for two hours per week, but I learned how to cooperate with college students and provide my insight of biology.
I had no exact teaching method. However, I was able to answer simple questions and allowed the students to work on their problems by discovering some of the ideas themselves.

I have taught Regents Earth Science and Environmental Science at Medina High School for 13 years. I have spent time teaching inclusion classes with a special education teacher. I believe all students can succeed. I use a multi sensory approach to my teaching to allow all students to learn. I also believe in hands on learning in science. I commend respect from my students and have excellent classroom management.
20 years experience in mostly urban school settings. Experience with students with disabilities. Written curriculum for living environment, earth science and chemistry. Proficient in computer technology and excellent track record in passing regents exams. Attended CIBT summer July 2014 where I learned cutting edge lab techniques and worked with Cornell equipment. Your Child Needs Help? I Am the One Who Can Help Them!!!

I am a direct/explicit instructional teacher or instructor. Explicit instruction is broken up into stages that follow a sequence. The sequence of teaching/learning is as follows: first setting a purpose for learning, then telling students what to do, then showing them how to do it, and finally guiding them with hands-on application of the new item that was learned. Reading Comprehension & Fluency Strategies: Fluency- 1. Focus on phonemic and alphabetic awareness 2. Teaching the meaning of learning simple to complex words 3. Give strategies to increase the speed of students reading aloud Comprehension- I focus on the five close reading strategies that support Common Core learning. 1. Number the paragraphs that you will be reading 2. Chunk the text 3. Underline and circle with a purpose 4. Write in the margin what each paragraph is saying 5. Take a deeper look into w ... read more

My comments on tutoring Biology : up to biology 101/102 college level

While pursuing a double degree from the University at Buffalo and working part-time, I worked in peer tutoring groups for Latin and writing. I have experience proof reading papers and correcting grammar. My four semesters of college Latin have given me a understanding of English language origins and modern usages. Latin also helps me to use punctuation and grammar correctly and effectively. I am well versed in aspects of earth science and geology due to my interest in geology at the University at Buffalo. While there I completed two full semesters of geology lab and lecture.
I am someone who understands that not all children learn effectively the same way. I am someone who will sit down with my student and ask them questions regarding how they learn and how they do not learn. Sometimes a student will not know how they learn effectively but they will know what does not work for them ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I love to teach and tutor mathematics, especially algebra, when students cannot seem to grasp basic concepts. Usually when a analogy to money is used, it becomes a little more successful. Learning and teaching have always been a joy to me. I believe that good reading skills are essential to good learning at all levels and in all subjects. I read a lot as a child, as I grew up, and I continue to enjoy reading today. Not only do I like to tutor and teach, but I would like to serve as a role model for young girls to turn to the Science/Math field and arena. Good parenting +limited amount of video/computer time+ lots of physical exercise + reading = Great learning, and development for any child. Many times students need the extra one-on-one attention that a tutor can give them to reinforce concepts, and skills; given this opportunity to do this for your child would be a pleasure to me.

My name is Robin and I have excellent teaching strategies for learning. I focus in on academic success, especially for struggeling learners.
