Reading Tutors & Teachers for Lessons, Instruction or Help in Basile, LA

I have been teaching English Language Arts at the secondary and elementary levels, U. S. History, World History, for the past 5 years. I also held a position as a tutor in the Writing Center for my former alma mater. I am skilled at working one-on-one with students from all grade/age levels. Before launching my teaching career, I held positions in the heart and fitness field, in the retail clothing sector, and raised two children. I am experienced with the Common Core curriculum and understand the demands it puts on today's student. I am equipped to help build the skills necessary to tackle the curriculum head-on in order to realize success. I am very hand-on and like to teach through example and discovery.

I love to make things interesting. I struggled with science in middle school and required a tutor. This person didn't make learning the subject fun, so from there I decided that with everything students learn a little fun should be involved. As soon as the student becomes stressed, I do some kind of physical activity with them to make them feel better. I have finished many of my math classes through high school with A's. I absolutely love writing stories and essays. The lowest grade I have receives on any writing assignment was a B. I have tutored many of times before and my students did extremely well. One student started with me with a grade of D in math and picked it up to an A.

I prefer one-on-one work with the students that stresses not simple correction or copy editing but legitimate comprehension on the part of my charges. My teaching style is comprehensive and rigorous and requires serious involvement and passion on the student's part. I do not hand-hold and I do not coddle but I am not uncaring: students learn best from experience, and that's something I can provide. I have worked in a number of positions that have required me to teach and train, whether that be as an instructor at a local radio station who was responsible for preparing DJs to broadcast or a tutor in Hong Kong who was responsible for developing the English skills of a number of non-native speakers at all levels. My experience is backed up by my certification to teach English as a second language and a track record as somebody who writes at a professional level.

As a native of Louisiana, I thrive on education. I attended McNeese State University from 1986-2010. I earned a B.S. and M. Ed. in Health and Physical Education, in which I taught H & PE for 15 years. I earned a Masters +30 in Administration and Supervision. I have many certificates in Microsoft Office and I am a certified Educational Technology Facilitator. For the past five years, I have been an Administrative Intern at an elementary school in Calcasieu Parish. During my 20 year teaching career, I have tutored LEAP/iLEAP students for the past eight years. I love teaching and working with all students.
