I like to first get an idea of what the student knows about the problem.. I find that the more time I spend listening to what they know it naturally turns into what pieces I need to add-in. Unless they came to the session to learn new material that would be a different scenario entirely in which it would depend on the student how I taught. I would have to find out what type of a learner they are. Whether it be a visual learner, if they need examples or are an entirely conceptual type of learner. I have found through my teaching that there is a motto that works very well in most situations. "Teach in such a way that it is impossible to not understand" basically if one can teach a complex subject in such a way that even a child can understand it then you are successful as a teacher. But with physics that is not always possible. It is all about the person learning not for me to hear myself talk and get through a lesson.
