More About This Tutor...

I have a deep conviction to helping students achieve both their academic and personal goals. I don't feel that merely passing a class is enough. I want the students I work with to feel like they have accomplished something for themselves, and have really learned tools for success. I am patient and kind, but I also ask a lot of the people I work with. I believe that teaching a child to succeed means stretching their minds into new ways of thinking, which can sometimes be uncomfortable for them. However, I am deeply committed to creating an atmosphere where students feel safe expressing themselves and asking questions.
I have taken advanced coursework in many subjects, including math, biology, and English, and I have studied French for many years as well. While preparing for my degree in journalism, I was hired by The Daily Universe, BYU's student newspaper, to help students in the n ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Having always pursued excellence in eduation, I graduated from the Univ of Colorado with a 3.5/4 in Mech. Engineering. I then worked for Motorola in Phoenix, where I received security clearances for work for the military. Although I enjoyed my work, I realized my true passion was teaching, and earned my certification at the University of Phoenix. My student teaching at a local middle school in Phoenix was successful, earning special recognition. At Heritage High School where I taught, I was trained in a progressive teaching method for algebra. I have left the workplace to care and educate my children and I have used different techniques to meet their education needs. I am equipped to be flexible in my approach, and I have the ability to identify learning struggles. I am very comfortable with one on one tutoring. My two children qualified for advanced placement and participate ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I enjoy working with students who are elementary aged up through college aged. I particularly love working with middle school students. I am sensitive to student's individual needs and realize that everyone learns at their own pace and in their own way. When I tutor in mathematics, I try to help students develop conceptual understanding, not just procedural knowledge. I believe that all students are capable of understanding mathematics and am able to provide different methods of instruction based on the student's needs. With my background in literacy, I also try to help students see mathematics as a language, or as another way to express ideas. This involves instruction in vocabulary and how to read mathematics notation.
I have taught middle school students reading, English, and mathematics for 10 years. I earned my bachelor's in Elementary Education from Utah State with an em ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have the ability to work with diverse students of all ages and levels. Whether the student is 15 or 50, I can help the him/her learn and feel comfortable around me. I possess the rare gift of patience which allows me to work with even the least confident student, or the most rambunctious! My teaching style aims at explaining and discovering the simplicity in every subject. I believe that everyone can understand a principle if both the student and teacher work hard together to identify the way to success.
During the completion of my BMA, I accepted a tutoring position and tutored all students (including disabled students) for two years. I eventually moved on to substituting for professors and even gained an assistant to the professor position, which included developing and teaching lesson plans. A Little Bit About Me...

As a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I served in Switzerland and Germany for 22 months speaking High German. I studied everyday, and excelled in my studies and speaking. For a few months, I had a German tutor, a German woman from Berlin that would help with my pronunciation. I was able to use the language everyday, and I always got compliments on my grammar and pronunciation. I also studied French all through High School, and used it while in Switzerland several times. I can carry a small French conversation and make my way around.
I've taught children, teenagers, and adults. It is important to me that those listening understand and are able to comprehend what is being taught. I try to make the situation fun and entertaining, but focus on what needs to be learned. I feel that if a teacher has a personal relationship with a student, the studen ... read more
