As a long-time instructor in English, both in public schools and in higher education, I have encountered many students of many different backgrounds, learning styles, and ages, in the classroom and online. I have taught in many areas of English-related courses. These courses have included writing, literature, reading, public speaking, report writing, film and humanities, and other liberal arts courses. Currently, I teach at a regional University in Business Communications, tutor, and substitute teach in my community.

I’m not afraid to admit if I’m not confident of an answer to a question and will do all I can to figure out the solution that makes the best sense to the student. I’m flexible with regards to teaching for different learning styles because not everyone learns the same way. My tutoring can extend from grade school kids to college students.

My teaching style completely depends on the learner. In a classroom setting, I am fairly relaxed and ensure that students feel confident and able to communicate without fear. My lessons address each of the learning styles so that every student has the opportunity to utilize their strengths when it comes to processing information. In a one-on-one setting, I tend to teach mostly to the style of the individual student. However, I vary the methods of that style to prevent monotony. I still utilize the non-dominant learning styles so students can begin to develop a holistic approach to learning, but if something flat out does not work, I will try a different approach.
