My comments on tutoring Elementary Social Studies : Social Studies is found in every text we read. I enjoy teaching students geography, different cultures, Oklahoma history, and background of the United States. I believe in patriotism of our country and teaching values, morals, and respect. In order to appreciate the world in which we live a student must understand the past, present and the future history and how it applies to our everyday life. Overall all we learn together to appreciate our differences in a mult-cultural society.

I spend a lot of time teaching small group interventions which focuses on the Reading Sufficiency criteria that is mandated by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Depending on the students learning style and the subject, my teaching style will differ. If the student is a visual learner than I will create PowerPoints and other visual aids to help them. If the student is kinesthetic than I may create a project for them to do (if the parent is ok with it), or I may have them interact more during the tutoring than with the visual learner. Lastly, if the student is an auditory learner than I will create/find videos for them to understand the material or create a song. My passion is working with children of all ages. I believe all children can learn and it depends on how you approach their learning. My teaching style completely depends on the learner. In a classroom setting, I am fairly relaxed and ensure that students feel confident and able to communicate without fear. I was accepted into AmeriCorps*NCCC, a community-based, government-run volunteer program upon my college graduation in 2003. Over the course of the next year, I was able to participate in projects that included working with the homeless, foodbanks, environmental projects, Habitat for Humanity and various educational programs.
