I believe that you must approach education by meeting the student where he or she is rather having the student conform to your style. Therefore I embrace an eclectic style. Each student will present with some king of dominant learning style. They will be primarily visual, auditory, conceptual or experiential. It is my job to discover that style in the teaching process and direct my approach to that student.
I taught with the Bangor adult education program in the early 1980's as a graduate student in educational psychology. I taught adults a variety of subjects math, English and GED preparation at that time. I also taught English as a Second language with them. I am a home-schooling mom who has been tutoring mathematics for over ten years. I began tutoring math while still in high school. In college, I facilitated study groups and 1-on-1 tutoring sessions. I graduated with a BA in Mathematics with a GPA of 3.19. I am a member of the Math Honor Society Pi Mu Epsilon. I have spent the last year teaching math through an Adult Education program, where I have helped dozens of people get past there fear of math and move into understanding. I have experience working with a wide spectrum of learning styles and disabilities.
