An excellent teacher and listener who enjoys sharing knowled

I enjoy passing on my skills and knowledge to others. I have trained many apprentices in baking as a professional and conducted many classes. Every day I am teaching customers how to use their television equipment and their computers correctly. I am very patient and enjoy the rewards of successfully passing on my knowledge to others. Friends call me regularly from all over the country for advise on their computers, video devices and random trivia questions .
I am currently employed as a technical advisor for Charter Communications for video and Internet. I originally was a math major and a math and history honor student at the University of Houston in the early 70's. I left school to start a family bakery in Vermont followed by award winning bakeries in Northern California and Utah. More About This Tutor...

While attending the University of Massachusetts at Lowell I work to help other students that were having difficulty understanding the material presented. I obtained a bachelor of science in Civil Engineering, with a concentration in Structural Analysis. The course work gave me a very strong understanding of Mathematics, and Physics. Also, the quantity of lab reports I have written has given me an advantage in writing non-technical reports along with technical reports. I have worked as a college math privately and through other companies.
My teaching style is very simple and I believe it is effective. I have found that going through problems does not always help kids learn. I always try to tutor the basics and establish a plan for problem solving. The children need to know how to attach a problem not how to plug numbers into equations.

More About This Tutor...

I am a younger teacher, and it is important to me to do two things that a lot of instructors sometimes feel are mutually exclusive; develop a personal bond with my students and maintain a set of expectations for academic achievement. I am a witty, empathetic, and goofy person in my private life, and letting students glimpse that has been crucial to my success in teaching. I make sure to provide positive feedback and I prefer to frame mistakes in a positive way, while praising effort, in order to help students feel comfortable taking risks. Lastly, tutoring has taught me that holding your students to high standards can help them to feel great about themselves when they achieve what they might have thought impossible without help.
My experiences during and after college have been crucial to realizing my skill and joy in tutoring and teaching. I was fortunate enough to attend a sm ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have degrees that require me to do a lot of reading and writing. My career has been composed of teaching, reading and writing, as well as literature, at the Universities of Vermont and Connecticut. The teaching included freshman through graduate students - all levels of writing, in short. Much of it took place during individual conferences.
So my teaching styles are varried. As a tutor, one on one, we would be engaged in a conversation. My part would be to discuss the sublect of concern to the student. The student would ask questions, and we would end the session with a forcast of the next.

A Little Bit About Me...

Education is the key to success. This statement was always something my parents told me growing up. I have always wanted to achieve and master the excellence in education. I started my career earning a BA in History to learn the passions of how the world has come to be. I also worked hours in achieving my certification in secondary education. I had to cut my student teaching experience short because I had personal and financial reasons. I have learned grammatical skills from writing research papers. I am able to tutor students in seven subjects, including world history, united states history, psychology, anthropology, geography, sociology, and economics
I have a passion to teach high school students the beauty of education. I believe the children have the potential to learn with my differentiated activities to accommodate their needs. I am a very patient and caring individual who w ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have recently learned to incorporate meaning-centered philosophy (Viktor Frankl) to my teaching with a Portfolio methodology. I use these methods with a dynamic demeanor and with positive re-inforcement remarks on their papers.I learned Portfolio method at the Junior College and have significant results with it. For me, there is no greater passion than to impart to students the desire to want to learn; particularly, when they do the research. I have always wanted to be the professor or teacher children remember.
I tutored English composition in the writing lab as work-study for St. Petersburg Junior College to assist financial aid for my Associates degree. I also tutored disabled students at the University of South Florida in writing skills. I held a composition writing component to the Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Program at the Training School Boys. I find working with students to learn thrilling. In order for students to be life long learners they need to learn how to teach themselves. I help the student stay motivated and positive about the learning experience and the subjects they are studying. My students learn confidence in themselves and there learning style. Each student has a different learning style with positives and weaknesses. I work to improve the weaknesses and grow the positives. All students have untapped potential and I work with them to grow that potential into life skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a firm believer in complete individualized, unique attention. It is critical to identify what motivates students and what techniques work best for them, and then work to enhance those skills and apply them to all subjects in order to be successful. By establishing the foundation for each students individual learning success, we can continue to build on those skills and progressively develop new skills and techniques to ensure that the student is confident in each subject he/she needs help with. It is my hope to not only strengthen the students in the subject I am assigned to tutor, but to establish skills that they can use beyond that one subject and into other subjects and in the classroom.
As a college and high school football coach, I learned first-hand how to motivate and teach people the correct techniques for playing and helped them prepare for games. I learned to formul ... read more

In brief, my style could be described as "student-centered". When teaching language in particular, the most important thing is for the students to be able to use the skills they learn effectively, and to appreciate the subject's relevance to their lives. I try to convey the applicability of whatever I am teaching; of course this changes on based on the individual student's needs, goals, and learning style. I would say I try to teach in a way that is flexible, adaptable, spontaneous but structured, and most of all, enjoyable!!
