Chess is one of my top subjects!

I'm an experienced chess player that has been teaching children chess for about a year now. I work part time for Kid Chess, a company that provides chess lessons to Elementary Schools across Georgia. With them I have prepared many lessons for groups and have given individual instruction to children too. My experience with Kid Chess has taught me how to instruct children in the basics of the game, and my time there has shown me how to give lessons to more experienced students too. Although I mainly teach children, I am more than comfortable teaching adults and teenagers too. Anyone who whises to learn chess from zero, or any beginner who wants to improve is welcome.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that to get what you want in life, you simply need to help as many people get want they want in life. I am a firm believer in the abundance mentality, and if I can help a student overcome their barriers to learning then I am giving of my skills to help someone get to where they want to be. AS far as actual teaching styles go, I am demonstrative when necessary but always aiming to be more of a delegator to allow for a student to become a "learner" themselves. I have included descriptions of both styles below for you to understand their applications. Demonstrator or Personal Model Teachers who have a demonstrator or personal model teaching style tend to run teacher-centred classes with an emphasis on demonstration and modeling. This type of teacher acts as a role model by demonstrating skills and processes and then as a coach/guide in helping students develop and apply the ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I feel that teaching will not only inform young minds to think differently or make them more motivated to learn. But to allow one to master his or her knowledge in general, teaching allows oneself to fully understand the subject in their own minds. Young minds such as children are easily impacted by an adult, which I feel that that should be influenced with positive, enjoyable learning. Allowing a young mind to like learning or studying will allow them to become very motivated individuals in life. I will only strive to make a positive difference in a child's life and let them enjoy the simple discoveries of learning.
Being a Georgia Southern graduate, I learned to enforce high level thinking and appreciation of education. I received a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering Technology, which has enabled me to get a feel of hands feel in the area of math and science. With previou ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I taught college-level students in the classroom and in an aquatic environment for three years. I also taught aspiring instructors on an ad hoc basis during that period. I have classroom experience with high school children in a special education setting, involving an extreme amount of patience and a willingness to find different ways in which to impart learning on non-traditional students.
I believe in short-term goal attainment. I first assess what the student feels they know, then look at what needs to be learned and from that I build a goal-oriented task set that should result in a learned skill set. I am also very good at thinking outside the box in order to get the skill set learned and to effect "true learning" as opposed to parroted learning.
