I enjoy sharing my knowledge and helping students understand mathematics. Math can be challenging, but when it is finally understood it can be extremely rewarding. I firmly believe that the key to mastering math is by repetition of examples rather than by studying complex theories. My primary experience is with young adults, and I am in my early twenties, so working with high school or college students is what I would be best suited for.
I recently spent my final year in college employed by Ohio University as a tutor for athletes. I was paired with a young wrestler and my duties were to help him with all aspects of his studies. When I tutor, I let the student come to me with the problem, and instead of doing it for them, I will break it down into smaller steps they can do. I have recently received by BS degree in Chemistry from the University of Dayton. As a chemistry student, I tutored fellow college students in Chemistry, Physics, and Calculus. I frequently held Drop-In tutoring with the school's LEAD program. In addition, I would also do One-on-One tutoring when needed.
I love tutoring, as it helps me keep up-to-date with the material, and I enjoy seeing someone finally grasp a concept they had struggled with previously. I typically help a student by example, if applicable. In math courses, I find that working through problems with the student is best. For science courses, going over concepts in the chapters before doing problems works best. I also help the student take better notes in class and take better notes when reading the chapter.
