I am passionate about igniting a child's natural inquisitiveness to facilitate learning. It is my firm belief that education must be more than memorization. A student must be able to incorporate the information that they are learning into their schema and make connections. I firmly believe that every child has the ability to be a great student. It is simply up to the teacher to identify what will inspire that student to greatness.
I am a Teach for America teacher. This means that in 2009, I applied with 40,000 applicants and was among the 4000 selected to become a teacher in a Title One school. I really enjoy working with people. Everyone has a different learning style and I believe in catering my approach to the person. I have a talent at taking complicated material and condensing it in a way that makes sense. I graduated from Plymouth State University in 2008 with my B.S. in Health Education. My option was Wellness Management which has a business component but in obtaining the degree I was required to do some teaching as well. I am a strong believer in leading by example. When given a task, I fulfill it to the best of my abilities, taking responsibility for it's completion and encourage those around me to do the same. As opposed to criticizing, I focus on the positive aspects of people's abilities and build confidence with that foundation. With that said, I do maintain high but reasonable expectations while providing the support necessary for success.
