My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : Was captain for 3 years in high school of National Oceans Science Bowl which is an academic competition in Oceanography which encompasses Marine Biology

I prefer one on one tutoring so I can adjust how I tutor to each students needs, but I have also done group tutoring before. All in all, I personally want to work in whatever environment will help the student learn most effectively.
Tutored many students during high school and I am currently a 1st year Chemical Engineering student at University of California, Berkeley. In high school, I tutored AP Chemistry, many levels of math, and many other science courses often. I also worked with younger students in middle school on many of the general subjects.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate of the University of California, Irvine. I originally studied Chemistry and Biological Sciences for the first 3 years maintaining a high GPA. I became allergic to many base reagents used in synthesis that precluded me from completing this educational path. I completed my education in business receiving degrees in economics and business administration. I went to work with a global consulting firm implementing financial systems. Since college I have continued to tutor mathematics, chemistry, biological science and physics. I have tutored for over 20 years intermittently. Many of my students completed their educations at universities including the University of California, Notre Dame, Syracuse, CSULB, etc.
Educational goals are comprised of two major types: short term - typically course oriented and long term - typically life oriented. I believe that everyone can le ... read more

More About This Tutor...

During my years at UCLA, I reached out to high school students, providing them with tutoring services and educational programs/trips to encourage under-represented students to pursue higher education. The mentorship program aimed to provide a strong mentor-mentee relationship that will not only help educate the students, but help guide the students through their high school years and pursue college. Having earned a BS in Psychobiology and performing research methods, I have a great understanding of many areas in science, math, psychology, language arts, English, and computers. I am also proficient in teaching the fundamentals of English, and I can speak Vietnamese and conversational Japanese.
Because each student is different, he learns differently and at his own pace; hence, I strive to understand the student's capabilities and level and cater his learning to his best interest. ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I enjoy tutoring because it gives me a chance to help someone. For many students math and science is a very difficult area. I believe a strong foundation in math and science can lead to success in the future. Throughout my college experience there were numerous courses that were very challenging for me. I therefore understand the difficulties associated with learning and take a very patient and considerate approach to tutoring. I also understand that different students learn at different speeds and with different techniques. These are all factors that I will take into consideration when tutoring.
I recently graduated from California State University Long Beach (CSULB) with a BS in Earth Science and a 3.5 GPA. My degree has provided me with a firm understanding of science and mathematics. I have completed coursework such as calculus I, II and III, calculus based physics and general ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher, I know not all children learn the same. I know I must bring many teaching strategies in order to meet my student’s needs. My focus is making sure I do meet my student's needs by any means. That is how they will have success with the tutoring process. I believe in using manipulative and pictures to teach students. Some children may be visual learners and need these items to make learning engaging and successful. Making the child's work area fun, comfortable and exciting can also help their learning experience to be a positive one. I will do my best to make their learning experience successful and positive.

As a college professor and UCLA graduate, I am very eager to achieve excellence in teaching and leading young people towards their personal goals. Education is becoming much more important in our knowledge-driven society. It is my prerogative to put all my experience and education to insure students’ understanding of the material and developing necessary skills.
I decided to become an educator once I realized how much my students like my approach, and teaching styles. I am firm, but at the same time flexible and easy going. I like to push them beyond their boundaries, but also to relax when they need it. The teaching styles depend on a student; it is absolutely necessary to adjust them to students’ needs and particular learning styles. The most important in tutoring is to be ready to change accordingly, based on child’s potential and abilities.

I have always enjoyed working with children and helping to direct paths thru life. I get along with children very well and am very patient. Children like adults have their strong subjects and weak ones and my style is try to find the strong points of children. It is important at what point a student lost their way, go back and help them get past that point. I want to make a difference in this small amount of time I have on earth.
I received my BS degree in Communications in 1974 and passed my CBEST test in December, 2008. I have been tutoring for over 6 months assisting a student rewriting her term paper. I have also tutored my grandson and younger daughter in high school and college math. I decided to enter tutoring and teaching after realizing how important education is while using my communications ability.
