My comments on tutoring Special Education : I have experience volunteering in an after-school program with children with learning disabilities and with MR/DD individuals.

I think teaching styles should differ based on the preferred learning style of the student. The teaching style should play on the strengths and preferences of that particular student. That being said, I foster a student-centered approach to learning. This approach encourages the student play an equal, active role in the learning process, rather than a passive role. A cooperative approach is important so the student can feel like he or she is an active and capable participant in learning the material. I also believe in leading by example and allowing the student to use me as a resource for reviewing their work.

A Little Bit About Me...

Most of my experience has been with adults as learners--coaching, supervising, teaching groups of staff and colleagues in the mental health field, and now--teaching CPA candidates on what they need to pass the CPA exams.
