It is very important to assess what the student already knows and the level of understanding they hold at the beginning. It is also important to make sure that what they know is correct and that they are not confused or misunderstanding the material. After which, getting to know the individual style of learning for each student will insure that time is used efficiently and that the student is understanding and retaining the material being taught. Working one-on-one is the best teaching method; however, when that is not possible, working in small groups is also very effective.

As a graduate of a small liberal arts college, I have spent many hours volunteering to help tutor my classmates in both biology and the humanities. I hold a bachelor's degree in biology. I have learned extensive grammatical skills through my school's intensive general studies program. I like to ask questions and get the student involved. I like to get the student engaged as much as possible. I would like to observe the method in which the student obtains the most information and expound on that variable, triggering many senses for better memorization. My teaching style would consist of trying to get the student to understand what they are studying which is considerably better than just simple short term memorization.
I earned a well rounded education from Western Kentucky University with a strong emphasis in math / Engineering. Since College I have pursued the Surveying field. I have recently obtained the status of Professional Land Surveyor with the State of Kentucky. I have worked for an after school program for the past five years. In this position I was able to tutor students and help them with their homework. The experience I have is with students in grades kindergarten through 4th grade. I did my student teaching in a preschool and a 2nd grade classroom. In the after school program and the student teaching experience I helped students with all school subjects including english, math, science, social studies and reading.
