I ask questions, I make math fun!! I draw pictures. The assinments are OUR assignments the students are not alone. Math was hard for me too I GET why they are stuck!!
I work with students of various backgrounds, aging from pre teen to retirement age, many with learning disabilities, many who are also ahead of their peers. Watching the look on students face as they grasp a concept they are struggling with is what makes teaching and tutoring worthwhile for me. I love the "aha" moment. I have a laid back, but respectful style of tutoring and teaching where I encourage students to think about concepts and how they understand those concepts. While teaching as an intern last semester, I designed lessons where students investigated concepts in small groups and were able to work out their own understandings together. I started tutoring in 9th grade, and continued until my freshman year of college. I tutored middle school and high school students in math, sciences, and social studies. In college I tutored in Level 1 and 2 French, Psychology, and College Level Algebra. I have tutored both male and female students, and have worked with people with reading and learning disabilities.
