My name is Briana and my college major is Elementary Education with endorsements in ESOL and Reading. At the University of West Florida I have maintained a 3.6 GPA and have been on the Dean’s List and the President’s List. This is an important achievement. However, I do not take this to be my greatest asset. It is my belief that my love for children and desire to see them learn, even as I increase my knowledge, is of greater value. During my college career I have made myself available to volunteer outside the classroom. I have worked in schools, science fairs, church schools, and other organizations. In participating in these events I have learned from others by observing and being a part of the educational experience. It is not a duty, but an opportunity.

I love being with children and working with them. It thrills me when I see the “light” click on. I know that given the opportunity, resources, and guidance every child can learn. I want to be a part of providing that for children. I also know that working in small group or one on one provides children a better opportunity of learning. I also believe that there are many learning styles instruction should meet the individual child’s learning style. My goal is to reach each child where he/she is and help them to grow in knowledge and ability. I work to help them reach their full potential and to become life long learners.
Before obtaining my bachelor’s degree, I taught a four-year old preschool class. While I was working on my degree I volunteered as a tutor for the local elementary school. I have been trained through the Alabama Reading Initiative(ARI) and recertified with (ARI). I ... read more

In the past, my classes have lasted up to three hours at a time. Thus, I have been forced to implement new methodologies in order to not only keep my students focused and interested, but continually learning as well. I incorporate fun activities such as creative writing and music into my lessons while still closely following the curriculum. I believe that education can be both entertaining and beneficial, just as I believe that all students are capable of reaching new heights of academic excellence. All it takes is a little bit of patience and creativity on both sides, the teacher and the student, to have an unforgettable experience.
I have two English-related degrees from the University of Miami, Print Journalism and Creative Writing (Poetry Focus). Since graduating in 2005, I have worked as a teacher in South Korea, Miami Beach, FL, and here in the greater Pensacola area. My clas ... read more

I enjoy working with kids and have been doing it for many years. I believe all children can learn but not all children learn the same way. In my past expereience, I have found you often have to go outside the box to find what works and try many different methods. I feel very strongly about small group learning and think it is very effective when it is done in the right setting. I strive to be the best educator I can because I want that child to have strong foundation for the next chapter in their life.
For the past eight years I have been working in the Nashville, TN area. My first year there I worked as a site director for the YMCA before and afterschool program. I have always loved to work with children. My job while in college was teaching children at a learning center. I also have tutored several children throughout the years that were having difficulties in either math or English. I have a strong background in math and English, but also have experience in psychology, sociology, and science. I believe a child can achieve whatever they put their mind to, but some times they need a little push to achieve that. There is no need to get frustrated with a child during a learning process because they are during their best and it is our jobs as adults to guide them in the right direction.
As a college graduate, I desire to constantly succeed at my efforts on a daily basis. I earned two bachelor degrees, BS in Social Counseling and BS in Behavioral Management, which has lead me into the helping profession. I also possess an AA degree in juvenile ... read more

I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics. I also taught driver's education to high school students while in grad school. After ten years working in law enforcement, I switched to social services and I have been mentoring children in foster care for the past twenty years.
I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Worship Leadership, and am currently working on a Master's in Elementary Education. I am also currently teaching myself Spanish and Mandarin. I have exceptional skills in grammar and writing, and I received a perfect score on both the Reading and English sections of the ACT in high school.
