Elementary Reading is one of my top subjects!

As a teacher and a tutor, I have always felt that each student learns differently and that they each need to be taught based upon the most efficient method that works for each individual student. Most of my day while teaching involved working with small groups of students based upon their areas of weakness. I used a lot of hands on instruction and activities which allowed students to gain a solid foundation before moving on to more complex skills. Very direct. Student reads aloud, I assist with pronounciation, phonics, etc. I have the child read, they hear the word, they say the word, and they will write the word. It is a win win situation. As the child reads, he gains self confidence and assurance he can read.

Better academics combined with more fun is the goal.

I consider it my duty to do what it takes to make the tutoring FUN for the person being tutored.
I have helped friends (and their children) to prepare for exams since when in high school I won various awards for my performance on exams. I won the top score for the Regents exam for Duval County in 1971 and for this I was recognized by the downtown Rotary Club. Also I won the top statewide scholarship award for the Chamber of Commerce and for the N.H.S. due to performance on exams. Also I won the Merit Scholarship award. I have only recently started to do tutoring for pay. Over the years I have helped my children, my grandchildren, and friends and others to prepare for exams ranging from kindergarten phonics up to and beyond SAT exams.

I keep learning fun and interesting!
