BA degree of interdisciplinary studies. 36 credits in Science and over 26 credits in Education. I am currently working on my Masters of teaching degree and substitute teach for all Grade levels. I have been working with Children if all ages. My career started as a preschool and Private Kindergarten teacher which lead to a Director position. When working with a student I try to first understand their specific learning style. Not every child is the same and retains information best using different methods of teaching.

Learning is fun. I promise!

I approach teaching creatively and encourage a student's involvement when creating their lesson plans. My background in psychology provides a unique perspective on effective teaching techniques for different personality types. Everyone learns differently and teaching should reflect this principle.
I studied Political Science, Psychology, Literature, and Creative Writing at Boston University. I have extensive research experience and am a skilled editor and proofreader. High School AP exams are easy if you know your material! I took the exams in the following categories with scores of 4s and 5s: Literature, Psychology, Composition, European History, and American History. I tutored elementary students in math and reading for a community service program during my time in Boston and still edit research papers for friends and acquaintances.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have completed all courses for my Associates Degree and was a trainer at my previous position. When in high school, I was a college preparatory student and graduated with a high school Diploma as well as 12 Advanced Placement courses and completed my International Baccalaureate diploma.
I love teaching all grades and levels. The most important aspect of teaching is to know your student. Each individual learns in different ways, some are tactile learners, some are visual, and some are auditory learners. Incorporating all aspects into my teaching style assists the retention of the material. It also has to be relatable to the student, so we have to use relevant examples that they understand. All children can learn any subject if you can spark their interest. There is no better feeling than seeing the light turn on and the sense of accomplishment in a child's eyes.

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught secondary social studies curriculum in PA and AZ. As noted I am currently certified in PA & NC. I also was certified in AZ, but I am no longer current because my statue of limitations has expired. I am currently a substitute teacher @ St. Mark Catholic School.
My foremost concern is to be a facilitator in the process of creating an educational platform for learning. Once that is accomplished, then my innate and learned abilities are enabled to teach. Therefore; my primary responsibility is to establish a bona fide student-teacher relationship, whereby the student acknowledges my genuine concern for teaching.

I thoroughly enjoy and delight in interacting with students as a tutor, providing individual attention for students who desire to excel in their studies. I want every individual I work with to benefit from what I can share with them. I am well aware that every student has a different learning ability, and each individual will retain information to a different degree. Throughout my years as a tutor, I have worked to create and apply the learning style that works best for each student so that we, as a team, can work together to achieve their potential.

More About This Tutor...

My educational background (I’m an Ivy League grad), high levels of achievement, work experience, mentoring and teaching activities gave me the skills to be an effective tutor. As a senior employee, I mentored new employees. As a graduate teaching assistant, I worked with college students in helping them understand complex subjects. At my daughter’s elementary school, I worked with students on improving their reading skills. My strongest skill set is in English comprehension, composition, grammar, punctuation and spelling. I can also tutor in basic math, social studies and biology. I have related skills in study tactics, test preparedness, research strategies, and using the computer.
For me, there's nothing better than seeing that light of understanding and excitement come over someone's face when they solve a problem (like math) or suddenly comprehend a subject they were having tro ... read more

My teaching style would best be described as conversational at best, drawing out of the student, their knowledge or lack of knowledge. I have taught my two honors student sons that I add to their body of knowledge and they are to coalesce the information to their understanding.
Having a degree in Philosophy & Religion has many advantages in teaching. I have found to better understand a subject it is best to go and study many different resources for that subject, a macro-view. However the complicated subject is, a person who knows that subject will be able to present it in a simple concise manner. With this approach I am able to study and present a variety of subjects in a concise but exciting manner. The full grasps of studying P&R encompasses many sub fields of study : i.e. history, psychology, sociology, pretty much all the liberal arts.

I am currently a substitute teacher in the New Hanover County school system. I have 4+ years teaching in middle school and high school classes. I have prepared and taught classes during my previous career with the Federal Government to adults. My major in Biology gave me a strong background in the sciences and math. I have always found these subjects interesting as well as essential for success in work. I try and communicate my enthusiasm for these subjects to my students. I relate well to youngsters and teenagers and they respond by treating them as responsible young people.

More About This Tutor...

I am graduating from the University of NC Wilmington with a BS in Chemistry and minor in mathematics in May of 2010. I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education, since i came from a third world country where education is not available. so my experience and bachelor degree enable me to gain the understanding in many areas of math and science.
Coming to this country and be able to go to school is very important for me, and i found it very difficult seeing many children not able to go to school because they have not motivation, even if they have the opportunity to go to school and be what they want.I believe education is very import in the 21st century and everybody should go to school and learning new experience and explore the different opportunity available for them, so i would like to help students learn about the value of education and help them gain ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with students, especially middle school and high school, and seeing them have a "lightbulb moment". This is the moment they finally realize that they understand what they have been struggling with. I pride myself on my ability to provide students with various learning experiences for all subjects. I believe this is what makes the most difference in gaining subject knowledge.
I am a recent graduate of UNCW with a BA in English and a teaching certification in Secondary Education. Currently interning in the Wilmington area, I have been working with 9th and 10th graders in English, developing basic writing and critical reading skills. I prefer to maintain an open dialogue with students to identify key areas of weakness in understandings and study methods. I teach historical studies within a narrative to maintain the continuity and relevance of the information. I excel at finding ways to increase a student's retention of material. I am well-equipped to accommodate students with learning disabilities and varied backgrounds in education. I believe in setting clear goals for progress. I always aim to expand a student's general understanding of the world to help them process a broader range of information. I feel that it is just as important for a student to learn his subject as it is for that student to learn to research and teach themselves.
I began my tutoring experience as a high school senior under the supervision of school's principal. This experience was primarily to help students with English composition and ... read more

I not only believe that all students can learn, but that all students learn in various methods. My preferred teaching method is a combination of Constructivism (hands-on, inquiry-based learning) and Behaviorism (rewards and consequences); however, I strive to internally motivate my students, and I find that making work relevant and meaningful has the greatest effect on learning. All interactions with students should be positive (even consequences, not to be confused with "happy" or "non-confrontational"), understandable, and challenging for the student. My ultimate goal is to make students self-advocates in their learning, lives, and goals.
Having wanted to teach since I was a child, I pursued my degree at UNC Wilmington and graduated magna cum laude in May 2010. I now teach at Duplin Early College High School and am finishing my first year of teaching. I cemented my desire to ... read more
