I am currently a Special Education Teacher within the Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School District for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 school years. Prior to my employment there I was a building substitute within the Albany City School District as well as a certified BOCES substitute approved through many schools throughout the Capital Region. I completed my Masters at the University at Albany in Summer of 2013 in both Special Education and Literacy. The best teaching style in my opinion, explains how to research, plan and write essays, gives students time to practice these skills in class, and ensures students get feedback on how well they have done on each sub-skill. Students learn skills by using them in a realistic, subject-specific context, and in a combined way. So they might use other skills taught before such as note taking, highlighting, all in context. The purpose of the skills are stressed, students are taught not just what to do and how, but also why. The students then reflect on how well they used the skills, what gains they were getting and so on, and then they action plan for improvement.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am finishing up my Bachelors degree in Dietetics at SUNY Oneonta- I will be graduated in December. I have been offered positions as a chemistry tutor but denied because of my other jobs. I was a student mentor for a year in high school to students that were "slacking" or wasn't understanding one or more of their classes. I worked at Albany ARC and worked to train young adults and adults in the kitchen- which also included basic skills such as counting and reading.
I really would like to help make a difference in someone's life and help them understand academics just like myself. When I try to teach someone, I always explain to them the subject as basic and simple as possible. I give a few examples, and then help them figure it out themselves. When/ if they struggle, I will be there to help set them back on track.
