A Little Bit About Me...

I will graduate this summer with a doctorate of arts in Mathematics. I have taught a total of 14 undergraduate-level mathematics courses in a broad range of subject ranging from developmental math to linear algebra. As an undergraduate, I worked part time in the Idaho State University tutoring center tutoring mathematics up to the calculus 3 level.
I am a very energetic and interactive teacher. I am quite patient with my students and try to use many different techniques to allow for different learning styles. I find that I can effectively motivate my students and get them excited about math.

I prefer to use the Socratic method when teaching. It allows me to interact with my students, giving them autonomy and a sense of worth. I am sensible to their ideas -no matter how far fetched they may be at times- and always supportive in their approaches. Also, I do not hesitate to incorporate technology in the classroom, as this medium has become a very popular and powerful instrument of teaching and learning over the years when properly applied. I like to start tutoring students by determining what the student's strengths and weaknesses are and building a strategy from there. When a student doesn't understand a new concept, I like to go through every step of the process with them to figure out where the stumbling block is, using a variety of ways to explain the concept to assess which strategy works best for each student.
