The scope of my teaching experience is non-traditional teachings. I taught middle school girls and adults in craft courses. While my children were in middle school, I volunteered in their arts and craft classes. I taught senior adults in a beginner Microsoft Office class at the Sunshine Senior Center in Deltona. While attending Daytona State College; Advance Technology Center was being build; I assisted an associate professor in ordering and setting up the materials testing laboratory. It is very important for me that each student can understand what I'm explaning, this is why I use different types of methods to help them visualize and understand my explanations. For each student I used to prepare sketches, brainstorms and flashcards. When it comes to math or sciences courses I had a white board for the equations. Also, I use, as examples and comparisons, things that they do frequently for better and fast comprehension and understanding. After sub teaching the last couple of years I have found most kids want to learn but need a lot of "structure". If their personal "structure" isn't there it is difficult for them. This is also true for kids who are advanced. I believe in no cell phones, electronic devices, and trying to figure out what each child strengths and weaknesses are and then use those strengths to help them learn. I am not against having background music playing during homework time because it doesn't bother other children. It is a problem however in the classroom. I have two types of degrees, one in Physics and two in Engineering. That enabled me to teach a wide range of subjects. I was a very popular teacher in the four universities in Baghdad. While in college, I tutored students in high school in lower level math and reading. I also taught swimming to high school students. During my tenure in industry, I was able to train less experienced employees in measuring tools and their use (calipers, Mics, feeler gauges, etc,) so that they might get a better position in the company and I received accolades from the home office for my efforts. I believe in being an active teacher helping an interactive student. Let the student be a major part of the program and I will be there to guide and correct if necessary.
