I obtained a bachelor of science in chemistry from the University of Alabama. But more importantly, i was deeply involved with cutting-edge scientific research throughout my undergraduate experience. In essence, I didn't just study to pass my exams, I studied to understand the material so that I can be able to teach someone else. I have also tutored introductory physics I and II at the university of Alabama center for Teaching and Learning. At first, I started out as a "typical" tutor - and had one-on-one tutoring sessions with college students. The session lasted about one hour per student. As time progressed though, i was assigned a classroom with up to 20 physics students at a time. Iattended to the students for 6 hours at a stretch. of course, they were free to leave when they felt confident about their coursework and other students replaced. I tutored for almost two years, not just ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored students in math and science (mainly math) for over 13 years. I have helped students in various levels of mathematics - basic math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. After working with me on a consistent basis (2/3 days/week) many of the students have received honors in their math courses, including "Most Improved" and "Highest Average". I am also proud to say that a couple of students have actually decided to pursue careers that require a good understanding of math - i.e. engineering, architecture.
I enjoy working with students of all ages, although most of my experience has been with middle school age and older. I use a couple of different techniques to help students understand math, including using visual aides, problem solving techniques, role reversal (where they explain a lesson to me), blackboard/whiteboard work, and games. I believe it's ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I've always been a highly focused and disciplined individual in regards to academics; ever since high school I've taken a serious liking to chemistry and math, not only because of their importance in daily life but also for the mental challenges they pose. During my time at the Hazleton campus of Penn State University, I had the opportunity to tutor other students in these two subjects. I was well-rounded by the time I finished my ChE degree, having gained valuable experience from using computer software, writing lab reports, and collaborating with others on research projects. I've never lost my enthusiasm for teaching - I still enjoy going online at Yahoo Answers and assisting people across the country with problem solving.
Few things bring me more personal joy than helping others become better learners and seeing them smile when they overcome their struggles. I never use a one-si ... read more

I enjoy teaching and the think that every child has the ability to learn anything they want. Through my personal experience, I realize that some people have a harder time learning particular subjects than others. Being someone who has been tutored earlier in grade school, I know what kind of dedication it takes and how great the moment of success can be. I teach using a lot of paper and using many examples. I find it easier to teach students by relating difficult concepts with something they might already be familiar with. I feel most comfortable teaching the subjects of science, math, and grammar.
As a premedical student, my main focus during college was on biology, chemistry, physics, and math. Through extensive lab work, I have also learned how to write scholarly reports. During my undergraduate years, I have taught inorganic and organic chemistry to sophomore and junior undergr ... read more

Admittedly, I have no direct (structured) teaching experience. However, I have nearly five years of experience in the journalism field, and during that time I've mentored a number of fledgling college and high school journalists. And while journalism and political science are my two specialties -- given that I have degrees in both -- I also have a fair amount of expertise in the tangential fields of English and History.
I do not have a particular teaching style because I don't believe that a single method works for everyone. Therefore, I operate from an Occam's Razor perspective -- whatever is the simplest solution is the best. I believe I am very empathetic and perceptive, which would enable me to determine what works best for each student.

I prefer to adapt my teaching style to suit individual students' needs. In addition to guiding the students as they practice different types of problems, I explain the underlying concepts to help develop intuition. This foundation enables students to quickly find solutions without relying on rote memorization of formulas. My goal is to give students the confidence and skills to achieve their potential.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from UAB with a minor in English. I have tutored high school and college students in Algebra II, Precalculus, and Calculus I. In the process of earning my degree, I completed standard undergraduate courses including Calculus I, II, and III, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations.

A Little Bit About Me...

During my Sophomore Year at College of Charleston I worked in the Math Lab tutoring all levels of classical mathematics up to Calculus III. I happened to be the only tutor who checked a box saying I could help high school students, and therefore worked with every family who called the college looking for a math tutor. After that year had a very large math tutoring business on the side, and over the last 10 years I have privately tutored mathematics and offered SAT and ACT Prep services at many of the finest academic institutions in Charleston, SC.
I can teach with or without a textbook. My great advantage in privately tutoring for 10 years is in my being forced to work with all levels of mathematics; that is, while most teachers teach one or two math subjects only, I have had to brush up on everything from elementary algebra to calculus year, after year, after year. I know how to " ... read more
