My comments on tutoring American History : Favorite subject in school.

A in AP U.S. History in High School, B.A. in International Relations and Russian Post-Soviet Studies from The College of William and Mary (3.4 GPA). 6 years of Russian language study, including a 6-week study abroad program in St. Petersburg, Russia, and 1.5 years living and teaching ESOL in Novosibirsk, Russia. 10 years of competitive running experience, including being captain of High School and University cross country and track and field teams.
Relaxed. I do not discipline students. If students want to learn they will put in the effort - I will not be their babysitter. I try to make class interesting, involved, and active, and to create a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

I primarily use the Socratic Method (question and answer) as my teaching style. I believe that asking students the right questions helps them to learn the information. Also, in certain instances I believe it helps the learning process if the subject matter can be related to an area of interest. I believe this can be a key component in a student's understanding of a subject.
I served as a tutor, primarily for English, History, and writing, for three years while attending Southern Vermont College. Following graduation, I worked for three years as a paraprofessional for Leland & Gray Union High School. I have taught a wide variety of subjects as a Special Education teacher. I have BS in natural science with a minor in Geology & geography and Secondary Education. I held certification to teach general science and currently certified to teach Biology in California. I have masters in Special Education and certified in Arizona as cross categorical in this area. I have taught and tutored Science (General, Physical and Biology), Ancient History, World history, Mathematics and GEDs. I have also done classes on a variety of job training and test taking skills.
