A Little Bit About Me...

I believe making the information relevant to the student is important. I like to use humor and real-life examples to keep students engaged. I believe that it is important to know how the child learns to be able to present the material to them in the best manner for them which is what I would base my style on.
I obtained Secondary Teacher Certification in Social Sciences. I taught high school and middle school Spanish for two and half years at public schools, and completed my student teaching at an alternative school for juvenile criminals. I was an at home teacher for my school district when children were out for extended periods due to illness. I have completed additional continuing education in working with gifted and special needs children. I enjoy sharing my passion for learning with others and love to see the “light” come on when a student finally understands a concept.

I am a graduate of North Carolina State University with a BA in Sociology. My interest in people and passion for helping others has lead me to many great opportunities. I have worked with the North Carolina Department of Human Resources, and aided/taught/mentored in the developmentally disabled and at-risk populations. I have had the chance to utilize my education and abilities in the Deland-Weldon school system for the past four years. There, I have provided social skills education, aided in the Pre-Kindergarten program, and helped implement reading skills to third and fifth graders via the RTI program.
