For the last four years I have been at Cardigan Mountain School, where I taught English, Latin, Homeric Greek, ESL, and Ancient History. I collaborated with the English Dept., providing, via Power Point Lecture Presentations, the historical background to Tennyson’s epic account of the Light Brigade at Balaklava and Shakespeare’s Henry V, and, as part of the eight grade history seminar, I delivered a forty-minute lecture on Hitler and the Holocaust. My career in education includes a wide range of experience. I began as a substitute teacher covering for classroom teachers ranging from preschool to the 12th grade. My innate teaching abilities became evident and I was highly sought after. Returning to college to earn my teaching certification, I gained experience in special education teaching summer school. A Little Bit About Me...

The hallmark of my teaching at Colby was my availability to students who needed academic help. I offered individual assistance to students during pre-arranged hours or when they simply dropped by my office. I found this type of contact with students to be particularly rewarding. My starting assumption is that any student can master any subject given sufficiently clear explanations and enough time to absorb the material. It is crucial to first find out what the student knows and what the points of confusion are. In the process, I encourage students to verbalize both their knowledge and their questions. Thus, tutoring is the opposite of lecturing and it lets students take charge of and set the pace of their own learning.

Some children need visual simulation to really ingrain the principle that is trying to be understood. While other's learn by complete repetition.
