Ashley Frankian- Special Educator, Ell instructor

I am a strategic based teacher that enhances my students learning through finding their own particular learning style. Each student has and individualized learning approach to their studies. Once they find what works for them, they will succeed. It is my job as an educator to help them find that out. I like to use a multi modality approach so that students learn all different types of learning styles, this way they may pick and choose certain styles that work for them. For example, If the students are writing about a short story they have read, to help them get their thoughts on to paper, I would assist them with graphic organizers to prompt them to list of jot down vocabulary words or important people places or things in the story however, in a manner that helps them to do this with a proper beginning, middle and end. All of this is visually designed on the graphic organizer to help the ... read more

ELL, Reading and Writing, Standardized tests ALL ages

I have recently acquired a Master of Education degree in Education-a lifelong dream. I have taught in both private and public schools in grades PreK-6. I have tutored many students along the way-including summer school for struggling readers and writers. My most recent assignment was a permanent substitute position in the first grade. I am currently tutoring in ELL AND ALL ACADEMIC SUBJECTS. I have passed all the MTEL exams and have helped fellow colleagues with these exams. I also hold License to teach Special Needs.
I am a fan of Howard Gardner- I believe each student has his/her own learning style. Knowing these learning styles can help both teacher and student accomplish academic success. I also believe in a gradual release of responsibility on the student's part. Teaching vocabulary before the actual lesson can help the student understand more completely.

More About This Tutor...

I like to get to the point of certain problems, such as reading the child/student when I see them, ask them some questions about the subjects they need help in and why they need help. I have worked with Infants-School age for over 5 years, and enjoy being there to help someone in need. I believe in giving back, because so many of us are blessed already.
As an early childhood teacher, I have had several opportunities to help children (school age), to do homework. I also was a tutor in high school to a boy for just Algebra, which then turned around to being all of his subjects and helping him keep on track. The hardest thing for me was that he had only lived in the U.S. for four years, and had trouble speaking English. After each session of tutoring, I would grab the Scrabble board, which encouraged him to use more words, learn new words, and have fun while doing so.

A Little Bit About Me...

I generally work with students with special needs in the regular education classes. What I often find in Geometry is that many of the students are lacking or forgetting the basic Algebra skills that they need to succeed in the classroom, so I do a lot of remediation, if necessary. I like to use hands-on approaches, and I am persistent with difficult students.
I have been working in Special Education for ten years, four years as a tutor at Nashoba Regional High School and six years as a teacher. I have earned my Masters + 30 in my field. When I started teaching, I was working with students with emotional/behavioral disabilties at Fitchburg High School, but for the past four years I have been working at Leominster High School as a math inclusion teacher in the Algebra I and Geometry classes. I have experience tutoring students in Geometry and other subjects as well outside of sc ... read more
