I believe that students need to be challenged. When they are highly challenged, they really produce. In my tutoring experience, my students' test scores rose two grade levels in ten weeks because they were challenged. Previously, these students were thought to not be able to speak, read, or write English, and were pre-testing at very low grade levels. For the first three years out of the university, I was a school librarian, and was board certified K-12 by the Washington State Board of Education as a result of this experience. From 2006-2008, I have been tutoring writing at Northern New Mexico College, from 4th grade remedial level through college papers in all subjects. I am presently working in an Upward Bound program for 9th graders, to help increase their study skills.

From elementary school to college I have loved education and learning which has been exemplified by my gifted and honors status. I have earned a bachelors degree in Environmental Science, which has strengthened me in the areas of math and science. I also have a balanced knowledge of writing skills from writing countless research papers, laboratory reports, and essays. During the last four years I have worked as an Environmental Scientist. I love teaching and working with all children. I believe each child has a different learning style and the tutor must identify it and use it to help the child better absorb and retain the information for complete comprehension and not just test regurgitation. I have an Elementary Education Degree from the College of Santa Fe. While persuing my degree I worked a an instructional assistant in an elementary school. The majority of students I worked with were special needs students. This helps me to understand that all students can learn when their needs are meet. I have been tutoring for about three years now.
