I am a homeschool mother of four, including two dyslexic students that I have been individually tutoring for four years using the Barton Reading & Spelling System. Prior to that I taught third grade in the public school system for three years. I continue to hold a current Virginia teaching license and further my own education and professional development by pursuing opportunities to learn more about educational philosophies and methods. Orton-Gillingham Approach (multisensory, structured, sequential, cumulative) I am currently completing the Dyslexia Certificate Program through Dyslexia Training Institute.

As a College graduate, I was dedicated to the advancement of myself and others. I have earned a degree in Mass Communications, yet have had the opportunity to Substitute Teach, be a Para-Professional, and also teach at-risk student in a one-on-one setting as a Homebound Instructor for 2 years. I enjoy teaching students through a variety of methods including traditional, hands on, and student specific. Each student learns differently and as a tutor I seek to tailor the education to the specific skills and needs of the specific student. I believe the goal of teaching is not only to learn specific content and skills, but to inspire students to love learning, and make learning fun and interactive. After watching a documentary on teachers teaching in the inner city, I decided to switch my major from Pre-Law to Elementary Education. I've always loved learning and I wanted to be able to convey that same message to my students. In college, I majored in Elementary Education with a minor in Psy. of the Exceptional Child. This minor allowed me to study children who are gifted and children with special needs.
