Don't tell me 2+2=4. Tell me WHY 2+2=4.

Although I wish I could count the endless amount of time I spent playing teacher as a child, I know parents are looking for more expierence than an eight year old and her dolls. I have tutored children, ages ranging from eight to fourteen, off and on for three years. I have expierence and am personally more comfortable helping with English and math centered tutoring for any grade level but am able to help with other elementary level classes.I've had the privilege to help with the passionate and the difficult and have been able to produce satisfactory results for all parties involved.

I am a very patient and driven teacher, which I believe are extremely important characteristics. Easy going is a great way to describe my personality, and students seem to sense that from me. It makes for a comfortable learning environment, but I also love having a lot of structure and planning in my methods so that learning stays on track. When teaching mathematics, I believe that over half of my job is social skills. Calming my students down, easing their frustration, and making them feel comfortable is over half the battle. It isn't that mathematics is too hard for most people, it is just too frustrating for most people. So my job is to set my client at ease and to create a learning environment. None of my family had gone to college, so it was predicted I would not either. I had a hunger to learn, so I systematically worked full-time and studied part-time, earning eight major degrees in cities where they alowed residency rquirements to be met in such a way. I was young and energetic, so it was a lot of work, but a joy. It took about 15 years to finally earn my doctorate. Along the way, I earned certification in a half dozen fields (especially loved English, social stuides, and psychology). I was employed for decades in education, teaching full-time for five years, often teaching on the side when I was counselor or administrator. After 10 years in the magazine and event business, I moved into teaching technology at a small, local high school. In addition to teaching, I earned my credential and masters in education during the first three years. My background in editing and love of computers has proven very valuable.
