I graduated from the University of Memphis in December 2005. During my time at the U of M, I tutored college level math courses. I took Calculus I, II, & III and did well in all three. Math is my passion and I aspire to share that passion by helping students through tutoring. During my experience as a tutor, I like dealing with the type of student who is willing to learn and put forth an effort. I like to show students how to solve the problem and then give them an opportunity to display what they have learned. Math is a difficult subject and it is important to learn the dynamics step by step. I would prefer to help the student who wants to learn and retain versus the crammer who wants to try to learn everything the night before a test. I believe that each student has their own style of learning and soak up information differently then other students. I myself like to learn visually and hands on. I have tried many styles of learning to see what works for me. I record lectures, take my own notes, like to question myself while I'm studying for a test. I think connecting something to something you already know will help you retain that new information very well. It makes me feel great when I know I have taught someone well and that they actual understand the information and are not just regurgitating what I am telling them.
