I work for a community college and have done advising, enrollment, testing, phone directory, and student sevices. I have attended many professional development workshops on education.
Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. As a graduate student from Central Michigan University I have learned several different methods to use when tutor students. Knowing that all students do not learn the same way or at the same speed I use several different programs/methods when tutoring a student. With younger studengts I use a combination of work books and computer lessons along with small homework assignments. Each student is different and might require more assistance than others, so in practice, the more the student works at a problem the better he/she becomes. In some cases remediation could be in order and if so, take home practice work could be in order.
