My teaching style is to help make student's successful by understanding their learning style. I have had the good fortune of working with myriad learning styles in a special needs environment, (in the home and classroom) which runs from autistic spectrum disorder to talented and gifted. Working with this huge array of kids has really opened my eyes to a variety of learning tools to ensure success. I love teaching and working with children. I love English. I love seeing the expression in the eye of a student who finally understands the concepts. I know what it is like to struggle and get frustrated. In Jr high I was tutored in English and math. Once I understood the concepts there was no stopping me. Most of all I find it is important to listen to the child and see how they need to be taught and adjust to their comfort levels. I feel that patience and compassion for different cultures is also key to the student’s success.
I recently graduated with honors from PSU and have a strong desire to work with and help children. I have a passion for literacy and believe it has the power to change lives. I am a single mom of a 14-year-old son and have also volunteered with the African Women’s Coalition to tutor African Refugee children.
