A Little Bit About Me...

One of my successes is sparking the interest and imaginations of students. As an educator, I have learned that managing the differences of students' abilities is key to successful learning. Showing students that there is enjoyment in a subject that may not have been of interest previously to them, is the true meaning of being an educator.
In this position, I provide my students with a creative approach to learning, breaking down complicated concepts into simple, easy to learn lessons that students can understand. I modify lessons, maintaining interest among all levels of students; while incorporating behavior management. Students' needs must be addressed on an individual and varying basis. What works today, might not work tomorrow.

Lifelong learner wants to help!

Patience is a true virtue! When teaching children, patience has to be presence. I have learned through my experience, a calm environment with a patience and observant teacher who is willing to try to understand how the child learns, goes a long way because all children are not the same; therefore, they do not learn in the same manner.
Hello All, I am currently a 3rd grade teacher in a ICT classroom in Brooklyn,NY. I truly enjoy educating children and helping them develop a greater understanding of different concepts. I am into my 4th year of teaching. I am highly dedicated and motivated teacher who is willingly to go above and beyond to help children succeed.

Learning Can be Easy and Fun!

I am very patient and I make sure the student thoroughly understands a topic before moving on. I motivate the student to succeed and teach good study skills and test taking skills. Normally, I use the student's textbooks and classroom materials during our lessons. For standardized tests, I use prep books, such as Princeton Review. Students do best when they are encouraged and receive positive feedback. My students are extremely satisfied after our lessons, and I receive wonderful feedback from children and adults I tutor.
For the past 10 years I have been tutoring, working with students and helping them in various subjects. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Binghamton University, SUNY in 2005. ADD/ADHD is one of my top subjects! Have worked with a few students who have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD as well as have my own experience in dealing with it myself and succeeding. Understanding this learning disorder, gives me great insight into the inner workings of the minds of these children. This knowledge allows me to teach them skills which will enable them to overcome some of the obstacles they will face during their academic career. I will teach them study skills, organization, and ways to remain focused. Everyone has a way to occupy his/her need to wonder by finding something physical to do alongside listening to the lesson at hand. I find keeping my hands busy by doodling fulfill my need to do something physical while still allowing me to focus on what the teacher is saying and take notes etc...

The first strategy that I use is building a relationship with the student by getting to know who they are, what there favorite things are, subjects, goals etc... This helps me discover what strategies I can use to help them learn. I also try to discover which learning method works best. Are they visual or auditory learner? Do they learn by having things taught step by step, or do they learn through visual or read aloud examples? I believe that every student has the ability to learn and to succeed; it is about finding the best strategy and providing that extra support. Being that advocate for students is the reason I went into school counseling.
I have worked in both counseling positions as well as teaching in many different settings and with students ranging in ages. I have my Masters in Education in school counseling from Hunter College and my B.A. in Psychology from Stony Brook U ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I recently graduated from Montclair State University in 2014 with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and a concentration in management. I have experience substitute teaching a wide variety of subjects at the elementary and high school level. I also have experience working with students with special needs such as ADD/ADHD, school phobia, and other behavioral issues. As a recent graduate still trying to plan a career path I look forward to hearing and working with you!
Other than having a lot of patience, I don't have a very specific style of teaching. Everyone learns in a different manner, so I try to take this into account on a case by case basis. Some students learn through repetition, some through writing, others through listening. I always try to make things as fun as possible and enjoy feedback.
