A Little Bit About Me...

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I began tutoring while I was still in high school. I earned my BS in Elementary Education in 1980. I have tutored students of all ages in different subjects. Most of my tutoring experience has been in math and reading. I have tutored students for all sections of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam. I have been a homebound and home-school teacher, as well as a classroom teacher.
I love to help children learn! It is so rewarding to see the reaction of a child who suddenly understands what he has been trying to learn. I try to help my students build confidence in themselves by helping them realize that they do have the ability to learn. I want every child to know he is loved and special.

A Little Bit About Me...

Completion of a BSBA degree in Management of Information Systems has given me valuable experience in a wide array of business functions as well as a team based and case driven experience over four years. The strongest of my skills are in reading, math, and technology suites such as all Microsoft Office products. I have taught, under minimal supervision by the standard teacher for one year on the fifth grade level. Tutoring was done at the fifth, seventh, eighth, tenth, and twelfth grade levels both in school, after school, and home-based settings. I am also confident in tutoring freshman and sophomore level students in supply chain management, networking, and systems analysis and design with UML modeling.
In many ways, learning can be customized to fit the individual inter ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of the University of Louisville I feel I have developed a knowledge base to further my career. I earned a BA in a subject that I greatly enjoy to study, History. Within the arts I was able to focus on humanities and cultural interaction. Along with these classes I took many general courses to broaden my focus beyond my degree. Most of my college career I was reading, researching, and writing papers that furthered my written communication skills. During the last three years I have worked in a leadership/teacher role to help people develop their knowledge base.
In school I took a class that taught us that everyone learns in a different way. Just like how everyone sees things from different perspectives. After taking that class I realized that there is not just one way to teach or learn. I feel learning should be educational but fun. Repetition is also important. These a ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I think educators must take into account the different ways in which students learn. For instance, I've noticed that math students may have difficulty adding and subtracting fractions, but have no trouble whatsoever when I ask about dimes and quarters. If an instructor can build a bridge between new material and material the student has already mastered, the student's retention can significantly improve. By getting to know the interests and knowledge of each, I hope to discover bridges that will make learning an exciting and enjoyable process.
I graduated from Wake Forest in 2008, double-majoring in Mathematics and Physics. I also took some courses in the Education Department, and substitute taught for public high schools and middle schools in Winston-Salem, NC and Metairie, LA. I have worked in tutoring programs for elementary school children approximately twice a week fo ... read more
