My most recent job was as a nursery caregiver at a church, where I was also a teaching assistant for Bible study. I enjoyed working with the children and trying to understand their unique learning styles. While tutoring classmates in physiology, I found it important to repeat topics, but change the context so that the student is not bored and also understands versus memorizes the material. In order to effectively teach, I feel it is important to recognize and understand each student's metacognitive learning style. Once that is understood the material can be introduced to them in a way that they can perceive. I also feel that it is important to empower students to have the confidence to think for themselves and understand their own ability to make connections about the material. Therefore, when I teach, I think it is important to constantly ask the students questions and direct them towards the answers as opposed to feeding them information that they memorize.
