More About This Tutor...

I just got back from Texas, after spending a semester in engineering school at the University of Texas at Arlington. Although my work experience is in retail, I feel that my knowledge can be used in tutoring. I enjoy helping people, even if it's just fixing a computer or caring for a friend's animals.
One on one or group settings are best.

Learning Math can be FUN!

I try to explain concepts by explaining the methods behind them. Once a student understands the concepts, it is easier for them to apply them to other problem situations.
With over 35 years experience teaching math, I have successfully taught students from third grade through college calculus. I enjoy math, and my students are able to understand it in a one-to-one teaching environment. During this time of closed schools, it is difficult for students to understand and adapt to this new way of learning. Many teachers are overwhelmed as they had to change their teaching methods with just a couple of months remaining in the school year. I have been teaching online classes at Forsyth Tech. for some time. Transfering this experience to one-on-one tutoring gives me the opportunity to help students that want to end the school year successfully. Let me help you improve your understanding ... read more

Algebra II is one of my top subjects! Algebra, at this point, is an absolute breeze for me. I have never received less than an A in every Algebra class I have taken, and I am quite capable of breaking down equations, theorems, and problems to their most basic form (I'll be able to show you how to decide what to manipulate in each problem, how to manipulate it, and the follow through) (more simply I'll be able to illustrate all the "how's," the "why's," and the "where's").

I graduated from Ronald Reagan High School with a 4.6 GPA in the second graduating class ('08), then went on the NC State University to study Engineering, where I jumped in between various Engineering programs for three years before simply deciding to take a break and truly figure out what I want to study. While this may deter several people from choosing me, I know that if you met me and/or any of my teachers from any grade level, they/I could certainly set the record straight, as I am quite a smart person, I have simply struggled with getting my life into an appropriate schedule. This is because between high school, my extra curriculars (captain of the drumline for three years and a captain of the lacrosse team for three years), and my parents, my life was completely structured for me, so what little free time I had was easy to budget, this is not the case in high school. I have a sincere commitment to teaching and developing the highest potential of my students. I am calm, resourceful, intuitive, dependable and flexible. I am understanding, patient and enthusiastic when working with students. I have a great rapport with my students and prefer to deliver content through modeling and hands on activities. More About This Tutor...

As a graduate with an engineering related BS degree from North Carolina State University, my background intense in the maths and sciences. After entering the workforce for a few years, I took a few classes in education to acquire my teaching license in comprehensive science at the secondary level. I have taught primarily chemistry and physical science for 3.5 years, but have also taught biology and earth science. With chemistry being so math driven, I am confident and competent at math subjects such as algebra and algebra II to name a few.
I consider myself a facilitator of information more than a teacher. Students must be accountable for their own learning. In math and science, it is important that students know how to apply knowledge rather than merely memorize information. In that regard, it is my job to make sure that students understand the core concepts of the material ... read more

I am a disciplinarian. I have an excellent ability to gain a students attention, keep it and the results of my students have been well above average. I have a knack to bring into the classroom, outside events (latest ball games, Olympics, etc.) to establish a 'bond' between myself and the student. This allows me to gain their confidence as well as not create a bored atmosphere. I find this very important, especially with the more difficult students.
As seen from above, I have valid tutoring experience in both middle grades and HS. I was in the student teaching program at Wake Forest and upon graduation, I was a substitute teacher in the Winston-Salem, Forsyth County School system. I also participated in the Junior Achievement program in the Piedmont NC region for over 5 years. I am currently a tutor with the "No Child Left Behind Program."
